I thought I would introduce myself, I coached about 10 years ago or so in Oregon. Our life journey has brought us to a small town(350 residents) in Alaska, where hopefully tonight, I will be approved to be the varsity basketball coach.

The principal has warned me a bit about my future team. A bunch of run and gunners or as he puts it, "gym rats".

In Oregon, I was a JV coach for girls basketball, up here the school only has a "varsity" program that dips down to 8th grades to field a team at times.

I am excited to have my "own" program and also to provide some continuity to the system as well. Word has gotten out around the town that I am the coach. How do I know this? Students are already calling me "coach".

I plan on implementing the Motion Offense, a man defense and Coach Miles' VPS system as well. I think the VPS system will probably be the most critical aspect this year due to the team's gym rat makeup.

I am happy I have found this little slice of hoop heaven.

Thats the greatest thing they can call you - COACH!!

Gym rats, perfect! All you have to do is give them some guidance before the season... just dont kill their enthusiasm.

I took a vacation thre a few years ago, nice town. As you implement your own system, try to keep it as simple as you can, the old KISS method always works best at first..... GOOD LUCK
