Good morning. My husband has been playing basketball all his life. After graduating high school, he attended Des Moines Area Community College for 2 years then transferred to Auburn University the last 2 years. After leaving Auburn University, he started his professional career overseas. He has been playing overseas now for 8 years and he wants to play 7 more years before retiring. His interest is to get into coaching Division l once he's done. He is 1 class away from getting his bachelors degree from Auburn University which he will complete within the next year. What should he do to get started with his coaching career? He is pretty well known and is still in contact with his old coaches. He wants to get started early so that when he's done playing, he can move directly into coaching. Thanks

At the higher levels it's not what you know it's WHO you know. Having the connections and playing experience overseas and college will help a lot.

Get in with a DI program as an assistant. Reach out to past coaches and see if they will help you find a job. The connections you have are the best bet.

I agree with Jeff - the more people you know the better your chances of moving ahead are. Its time to start networking - get a good list of all the coaches you know or that you have played for..... then its time to start contacting them for open positions.
