I really want to become a basketball coach very badly. But everyone says that I'm too young (20 years old)
Any Ideas or tips that you can give me annd thanks.

20 is NOT to young to start somewhere..... you might have to start at lower levels but a lot of us started there

You are going to have to get a teaching degree if you want to coach at a high school or at the very least take a coaching certification course. You could always volunteer too.

IF that is your DREAM.... don't let ANYONE keep you from achieving it. Talk to the AD at your local high school or middle school and find out what it would take to coach there.

I understand that ... I'm just suggesting that you talk to the AD or prinicipal to find out what their procedures are.

I should learn a little bit more about defense because I love that more than offense.

Maybe you should start by assisting a youth coach and learn as you go along. Go to clinics if you can, talk to the high school coaches or anyone that will listen to you.

You don't have to be a teacher but it helps.... you do need to be certified and have a background check.

Here is another site with a lot of questions and answers -

Like Coach Sar mentioned, you'll probably have to start out with younger kids. Usually the local YMCA, city league or i9 sports leagues are always looking for coaches to help. Maybe see if those places have camps or clinics you could help with also. Hanging out as an assistant for a few seasons would be a good way to get some experience without taking on the full responsibility.

Do you have any nephews or nieces that play sports? That's another good way to get your foot in the door with coaching.

Coaching a youth team could be very rewarding. I also like Coach's comment that you could learn while coaching at the lower lever. Good Luck in whatever you choose to do.
