Thaks a lot for they e-books, the are great. Gives me more inspiration. I am also looking for information about initiating basketball to kids from 6 to 8 years. Secondly, how can you teach kids,about the age of 12, who are hard to learn not to stay to long at the same spot? I am having a problem teaching that, they don't move enough. It's like they wait for the other guy to move. I try to teach them to move to the 6-spot after the pass, and fill the empty spot in a rotation pattern.

For kids 6-8, get creative using some build-up games. Things that are fun and not competitive. Even teaching skills at that age is difficult. They will change so much as they grow that what you teach them now might become a roadblock later. An illustration is shooting. Have you ever tried to correct shooting form of a 12-year-old kid who has been "hoisting" the ball since he was 6? Dribbling and passing are good skills for that age. Use smaller balls and very short sessions. I would not worry about "coaching" them for basketball games. If they want to play, they will find competition elsewhere.

With your 12-year-olds, don't lose your patience and don't think it is you. That is a battle you'll fight even when you are coaching pros. They are just beginning to understand time and space relationships and that does not come easily. Just give them a lot of repetitions, don't stop them during the possession, correct afterward. Then send them out again. You will always have those periods where they get stagnent but teach yourself to allow them to play through it with correction instead of trying to control them.
