Side Out of Bounds Play: Slice

Summary

This sideline inbound play can get your best shooter a wide open jump shot. This redirection play is meant to be run against man to man defense.

Personnel

1 – PG
2 – Shooter
3 – Inbounder, secondary shooter
4 – Big Forward
5 - Post

Instructions

Slice
  1. Player 4 backscreens for 1.
Slice
  1. Player 3 inbounds over the top to 1. The other option is to inbounds to player 4 then pass to 1.
Slice
  1. Player 2 and 5 double screen for 3.

    3 cuts off screen to corner.
Slice
  1. Player 1 looks to 3 (this is an option but not the primary option of the play).

    4 sets a double screen with 5.
Slice
  1. 2 cuts off 5/4 double screen for primary shot.

good play, maybe as another option after 5 and 2 screen 3, 5 can duck in for a post up straight from 1 as 5's defender may help off on cut.

I've been coaching high school boys varsity for 5 years this is a excellent play if the other team is playing man to man defense.

Nice look for 2 to take a J at the elbow. The defense has a tendency to over adjust to the baseline cutter.

I have 5 step in the lane for a simple lay-up. My player took the initiative to suggest it. It also gets you set up in the 1-3-1 if there is nothing doing off the screens.
