Escape 2 on 2 Half Court
Ages: All Ages Youth Middle School High School+
Purpose of the Drill:
To teach the escape principle, now adding a second defensive and offensive teammate. In this drill the offensive player has to read the defender chasing her, the help side defender, and her teammate. The goal should be to get a lay-in.
Instructions

- The wing walks down, breaks out, and receives the pass, as the defender misses the ball.
- The wing goes straight at the rim, reading the defender chasing her, the help side defender, and her teammate.
- The help side defender must attempt to stop the drive.
- The offensive teammate needs to move in the best position to receive a pass and get the best shot available.
- If the wing beats her defender to the rim, it becomes a 2 on 1 which means a lay-in should be shot.
- The coach can move people around by simply changing the offensive players starting position. She could put them on the block, the high post, opposite wing, or baseline on same side.
Points of Emphasis:
- If the offensive wing can get to the rim before the chasing defender, it should be a lay-in because it is a 2 on 1.
- Good passing, catching, and converting to a good shot are important skills that need to be developed.
- Need to warn players about trying to decide ahead of time what pass or shot to take until the ball handler comes to a decision point.
- By moving both offensive players to different spots the players will get different looks and challenge the offensive players to make different decisions.
