Continuous 3 on 2

Purpose of the Drill:

All around drill with an emphasis on passing, taking care of the ball, and transition. This drills improves passing, transition offense, transition defense, and ball handling.

Instructions

  • 3 offensive players advance the ball down the court as quickly as possible. Wings stay wide. Guard looks to advance the ball with the pass.
  • 2 defensive players try to stop the ball by causing a missed shot or turnover.
  • The offense attacks until they get a good shot. Once the shot goes up, all 5 players are trying to get the rebound. There are no out of bounds and players should use the entire gym trying to get the ball.
  • Players waiting on the sideline should fill in the empty defensive spots and offensive outlet spots.
  • The player that gets the ball (after a shot or turnover) is now on offense and outlets to another player to attack the other direction.
  • Two offensive players are waiting on the side. Two defensive players are waiting to get a stop.
  • Three offensive players now attack in the opposite direction trying to score.
  • The four players from the previous possesion fill open spots for the next round of offense and defense.
  • Once the ball is shot, all five players try to aggresively get the ball. Once the ball is secured, they outlet again and the seqeunce is started over.
  • The drill runs continuously for a certain pre-determined number of possessions.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Fill the lanes properly, stay wide.
  • Get the ball ahead and sprint down the court.
  • Catch under control
  • After the shot, gt the ball out uickly.
  • Play aggressive. Go after the ball. Use the whole court and out of bounds to go after the basketball. This drills will show you which players really want to play.

Motivation/Teaching Tips:

  • Track Points per Possession. Yell out their progress as drill goes on.
  • Try to get 40-60 possessions, which takes 6-10 minutes for a high school varsity or college level team.
