Circle the Cone Drill

Purpose of the Drill:

The purpose of this drill is to help players work on attacking the defender out of a specific move.

Instructions

  • Player 1 begins with a basketball on the block and attacks the cone at game speed.
  • He turns the corner and then attacks and finishes at the basket.
  • Repeat on the opposite side.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Make your move after turning the cone and explode to the basket out of the move.
  • Stay low throughout the entire ball handling sequence.
  • Explode up and finish high at the rim.
  • Incorporate a variety of finishing moves.
  • Make dribble moves into jump shots.

Motivation/Teaching Tips:

  • have the players make a certain number of shots in a specific period of time.
  • Have them make as many as the can in a specific period of time.
