Categories: Agility  Ballhandling / Dribbling
Ages: All Ages  Youth  Middle School  High School+

Purpose of the Drill:

Quickness, agility, and dribbling skills.

Instructions

  • You can use tape to create two lines on the floor or use existing lines on the court. We choose lines that are about 14-20 feet apart.
  • On go players sprint to the line, then back pedal as quickly as possible for 20 seconds.
  • This drill might seem simple but if you really emphasize SPEED and excerting 100% effort while keeping their head up, it's a very challenging drill. You really want to encourage players to move as fast as possible. And then go faster!!
  • Give players a break in between reps so they can full speed during the drill. It musth be performed at all speed and with the head up. It's ok if they lose the ball. Players should push themselves.
  • In addition to running forward and backpedalling, you can have players faces the sidline and shuffle (like defensive lanes slides). This will really improve agility and ballhandling at the same time.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Keep head up
  • Go as fast as possible. Short bursts of speed!

Motivation/Teaching Tips:

  • See who can get most reps in 20 seconds.
