Cheetah Press Break
A long layup can be demoralizing to a full court press. Having a press break that results in a layup is a great tool for your toolbox. This is especially true late in a game, when a team is denying. That leaves them more susceptible to a 'home run' pass.

Instructions
Position your players as shown. Player 2 should be your fastest player. This is usually something that you would do in a dead-ball situation, in which case Player 1 cannot run the baseline. Player 1 should have a strong arm and be able to throw an accurate baseball pass.
On the slap of the ball, Player 2 circles behind Player 1, who pretends to hand them the ball. This unique action is likely to confuse the defense. Player 2 then sprints all the way past the key and cuts up and between Players 4 and 5, who have moved apart to create space. Player 3 sprints straight toward the baseline.
After Player 2 runs through the space, Players 4 and 5 come together for an elevator screen, preventing 2's defender from getting through the screen. Defender 2 is caught behind them, and Player 2 is wide open sprinting toward the basket. Player 1 (standing out of bounds) throws a long pass that Player 2 can run to and corral for an uncontested drive to the hoop.
You can run this as a counter to Cheetah. This time, 1 does hand the ball to 2.
2 sprints down the baseline. 3 comes up and sets a back screen for 1. 1 goes deep and receives a pass from 2 for the layup.
Points of Emphasis
- The pass should be high enough to get over the defense and placed so that the receiver can run to it without slowing down.
- For the second option, 2 must clear the backboard so that their deep pass doesn't hit the back of the backboard.
Teaching Tips
- Tell your team that this play will get them an easy two points.
- Teach your passer to look at and fake to Player 3 before passing deep.
- If the deep pass isn't open, don't throw it! In that case, players 3, 4, and 5 should work back to the ball.
