How To Create Better Shooting Drills For Your Offense - Get More Shooting Reps During Practice And Build Basketball IQ
Then make sure that you implement 4 things:
Shooting Drills for Drag Screen Actions 1 - Make sure that most of their field goal attempts during practice represent cuts and movements that occur during the game.
2 - Have players take game shots from game spots at game speeds! (It's okay to start at a slower speed with initial learning.)
3 - You should teach your players different reads and actions to counter different defensive looks. This builds basketball IQ at the same time!
4 - Your practice shots need to have an element of importance or pressure to them. Each rep demands focus and engagement.
Bonus Tip: Include shooting drills with defenders and a passing option to stimulate game-like decision-making.
And here's why all of this is important...
Good shooting form is only half of the battle on game day. And shooting slow methodical jumpers during a basketball game won't get the job done.
On game day they're going to be dealing with the pressure of big-time games and swarming defenders. This means you've got to do everything in your power to help them get quality shots off quickly.
Fortunately, Coach Nick LoGalbo (Olympic Gold-Medal Winner) has developed a shooting system for offense. It forces players to take shots that actually happen in game situations.
Plus, the drills are designed to help players develop spatial IQ.
That spatial IQ will teach players how to make good reads in your offensive system and catch defenders out of position.
Imagine watching from the sideline as your players score because they make the correct read... and demonstrate HIGH basketball IQ..... because they have replicated these situations over and over again in practice.
Please note: these drills do not include defenders. However, that's quite easy to do. You simply add the defense, initiate the drill with the chosen game action, then go live.
