Argentina Warm-Up Drill
Ages: All Ages Youth Middle School High School+
Purpose of the Drill:
This is a full-court warm-up or conditioning drill for team settings, to get the players passing and moving.
Instructions

- Line up 12 players around the court as shown in the diagram, with the 2 players under the basket holding a basketball.
- Have each player point to their partner who will be standing directly opposite them on the court (indicated by the straight arrows).
- The players on the sideline will run straight across, the 2 players under the basket will exchange, and the players in the corners will exchange diagonally.
- To start the drill, determine a direction for the pass (right or left), and the type of pass you would like the players to use (chest pass, push pass, overhead pass, etc.).
- The drill begins with the 2 players under the basket making a pass to the right.
- After passing they run to the opposite baseline exchanging with their partner.
- The players in the corners catch and pass up the sideline, then exchange diagonally.
- The players on the sideline pass and exchange to opposite sideline.
- The basketballs continue to move in a clockwise (or counter clockwise) direction around the sideline and baseline, while the players exchange with their partners immediately after making a pass.
- Use a set amount of time for the drill.
Points of Emphasis:
- Communication is key, as there will be many players running across the court in this drill. Tell players to talk to each other and talk LOUD.
- Proper passing mechanics for the pass being used.
- Players receiving the pass should have hands up showing a target for the passer, and catch the ball in triple threat.
Motivation/Teaching Tips:
- This drill can also be done in the half-court with 8 players.
- Coaches can use this drill for warm-up at the start of practice, or as a conditioning drill.
- If using as a warm-up drill, coaches can also determine how the players exchange spots (jog, skip, sprint, defensive slide, carioca, backpedal, etc.).
- Make sure to stress communication, to avoid players running into one another.
