Fast Break 5-0: 5 Options

Purpose of the Drill:

This is a 5-0 fastbreak drill which teaches the players several options to look for when running the break.

Instructions

  • Play: Hit 4 man on a post up and pass to five man on dive.
  • 5 takes ball out of bounds and passes into player 1, who is making a banana cut.
  • Players 2 and 3 fill their respective lanes.
  • Player 1 takes one or two dribbles and then passes up court to player 2.
  • Player 2 hits the 4 man who is posting up.
  • Player 4 dumps it to Player 5 for a layup who has filled the off side lane.
  • Play: Throw over the top to Player 4 for layup.
  • Player 5 inbounds to Player 1 making a banana cut.
  • Player one takes one or two dribbles and then hits Player 4 who is running the 4 lane.
  • Play: Hit the 2 Man in for a Layup
  • Player 5 inbounds to Player 1 making a banana cut.
  • Player 1 makes a quick up court pass to the cutting Player 2 for a layup.
  • Play: Hit the 3 Man in for a Layup
  • Player 5 inbounds to Player 1 making a banana cut.
  • Player 1 makes a quick up court pass to the cutting Player 3 for a layup.
  • Play: Hit the 3 Man in for a 3 Pointer
  • Player 5 inbounds to Player 1 making a banana cut.
  • Player 1 makes a quick up court pass to Player 3 for a 3 pointer.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Bigs run 94 feet hard each rebound and out of bounds play. Make the opponents bigs tired.
  • Key is to beat people down court.
  • Not a lot of dribbling with goal of moving the ball up court in 4 seconds.
  • Look to take what the defense gives you.
  • On the layups to the wings, allow the pass to bring Player 2 and 3 into the lane.
