After our first practice, it’s clear that players don’t understand what “hard working” means. I think many of them are trying. But they don’t know what it takes yet.
To me, “hard working” is a skill and a value that you must teach, develop, and continually refine…
So here’s what I did on our second day of practice and a possible idea on how you can develop “hard working” players…
On our second day of practice, I explained to our players that I was not satisfied with our effort from the previous day. And we need to better understand and improve our first core value / team characteristic (“Hard Working”).
I handed all of them a printout of this document — Core value 1 – hard working.doc. I then read the first two sections and really emphasized what we needed to do in practice. I then told them they needed to read and study the printout after practice.
We definitely had a better practice yesterday. We’ll see how things go from here and how many of them read the Hard Working Printout (I’ll quiz them today).
There might be typos in the document but feel free to take it and use it yourself. I hope this helps you in some way!
