I’m not real big into talking about myself but apparently some people like to know this stuff and I want to be completely transparent with everyone…
I guess if I was reading this blog, I’d want to know WHO was writing this stuff and if they were a complete lunatic or what.
So here you go — a little bit about me (Jeff Haefner)…
I’m a basketball coach, skill development trainer, and Co-Owner of Breakthrough Basketball.
I currently live in Marion, Iowa with my wife, two kids, and our golden retriever (Izzy).
Over the past 20 plus years, I have coached 2nd grade teams all the way to high school teams. I have trained college players and youth players.
I have had undefeated seasons, as well as difficult seasons… with painful losing streaks.
I’ve been fortunate to have a wide range of experiences — spending a lot of time coaching and learning about the game. This is what I do and what I enjoy!
As I’m updating this bio page right now, I currently coach my sons 5th grade team and my daughters 7th grade team. In most seasons, I find time to coach some high school basketball… but at this stage that is just too much work — and I focus on my time watching my kids play sports and coaching their youth teams.
Quick Bio Snapshot
- 11 years of high school coaching experience — Marion Sophomore Boys Coach 2013-2016, Anamosa Sophomore Boys 2001-2006 & 2010-2013.
- 9 years of youth coaching experience — 1st to 7th grade.
- Co-owner and President of Breakthrough Basketball.
- Player development coach and trainer.
How I Make a Living
I earn a living and my paycheck as a co-owner and manager of Breakthrough Basketball. We do a bunch of skill development camps, create instructional DVDs, write eBooks, and stuff.
I’m pretty fortunate to have a job that I really enjoy. How could you not enjoy being around basketball each and every day??
I do occasionally run some camps but I have scaled down so I can spend more time with my family. Soccer, baseball, gymnastics, dance, and all the kids’ activities keep me pretty busy!
