It's sad that at age 11 that politics has to enter into the game of basketball. This is what happens when parents or non professional coach the game.

I think that I was pretty fair, we all have kids that we like, but I liked to think that I played the best players to give my teams a chance to win.
(this was high school boys varsity - just to explain my philosophy)

It looks like the coacht took exception to your questioning him regarding playing time, sometimes its best to let that alone, unless it is really unfair. Hard to understand that your son doesn't get ANY playing time on Friday's. I can understand the coach giving other kids some playing time IF they didn't play in the tourneys.

How many games are left in this season? Are there other teams that your son can play with next year? I would look around for something that might fit your needs. You could have your son ask the IF he is going to play in this Friday's game and see how that goes. After the way the last time YOU asked the coach, I would stay out of it.

Good luck and I'm sorry that your son has to deal with this at 11. This is supposed to be FUN for all the kids.

My son who is only 11 year old plays basketball and he is in a team competing for the state championship league. He is very athletic. He is the fastest, very quick and the best shooter in the team. We normally play the champion ship league games on a friday night and some times would play in other tournaments. I always noticed when we play other tournaments ( in these tournaments they have to play at least 3 games per day) he will get lot of court time since he is very fit and has endurance. After these tournament he will not get court time on friday night games. The coach has explained to him that since some of the other boys haven''t got much court time in the tournament he neede to give them more court time. I know this applies only to my son but not to some of the other boys. There are few of his favourites in the team. We train twice a week but the coach asks some players to come on a seperate day and give them extra training. My son was called only once since I asked about it. I can see a division within the team. The mums and dads whose kids go for this extra training hang around with each other and ignore the rest. I don''t know how to hadle this situation. Please advice me.

Rose, it depends on the league. Ithink they should split that into two teams. To get sufficient playing time, you should limit teams to 8 players.

If you have 15 player on a middle school team isn't there a rule that each player should play?
