Why You Should Listen?

Today, there is debate about whether AAU is causing the game of basketball to get worse. Past and present NBA players, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Rober Horry, have expressed their disappointment by calling AAU “STUPID” “HORRIBLE” and “POORLY COACHED.” Our guest Jerry Meyer, who is the Director of Basketball Recruiting for 247 Sports brings great insight to clear up these comments.

Jerry’s basketball experience and successes have developed him into being one of the better evaluators of basketball talent. His basketball pedigree includes being the all-time assist leader in college basketball, leading a team that set a single season record with 41 wins and coached DI basketball. He had the good fortune of being coached by his dad the legendary Don Meyer. Coach Meyer is the 5th winningest coach in college basketball history. Buster Olney, of ESPN, calls Coach Meyer the “GREATEST COACH THAT NO ONE KNOWS.”

In his interview, Jerry will explain to you the skill sets that made his dad so effective in leading and teaching young men for 38 years. His dad’s “Servant Heart Leadership” transformed teams, universities and communities as well.

He will also let you know the confusion about AAU basketball, what should be done with the 1 and Done Rule, the influence of shoe companies, how to pick the right spring and summer program, disservice of specialization at young ages, what is looked at when evaluating players, how opportunities are damaged by badgering scouts, advice on how to coach your child, and much more…

Hello! I am a mother of a 10 yr old girl who loves to play basketball. She has been playing for at least 3 yrs now which includes school Ball & AAU. I’ve been very disappointed in AAU in the past because of playing time & concerned that she’s not moving forward with the game. Plus it’s a lot of money to just throw away if she’s not gaining anything from it. I’m reaching out for a little advice as tryouts for AAU are coming up. My thoughts was to skip AAU this year & look at recreational ball & some camps or try AAU once again with some of her friends . I want her to gain more knowledge about the game & keep her confidence up! May I ask some of your opinions on here… what should I do?
