Post subject: | Question for parents that keep stats |
I have a question on how to record this stat. During my daughters game with happened....My view is blocked by the coach and the ref, I see my daughter (defense) come out with the ball. I asked the person beside me how she got it,. I was told a steal. One of the parents recorded the game and put it on Facebook. I watched it today with a clear view on the play. After seeing it, I'm not sure if its a steal or a loose ball recovery. What's your thoughts? Here's the play..... My daughters team is on defense, point guard brings the ball across half court, 2 defenders go to the ball, the point guard throws the ball over the defenders toward teammate, the ball hits the floor and after the initial bounce, my daughter controls it. Nobody touched the ball after it was thrown until my daughter got it. Do you consider this a steal or a loose ball recovery? |

Turnover based on your description. Steal would be caused by defense, this sounds like a bad pass by the offense. |

Any loose ball recovery by the defending team is a steal. The offensive player that threw the pass gets a turnover, and the defender that came up with the ball (your daughter) is credited with a steal. I did stats for 6 years at the college level as a frame of reference. Now, don't get me started on what is or isn't an assist, ha ha! |
