Lehigh Closeout Drill
Ages: All Ages Youth Middle School High School+
Purpose of the Drill:
To teach a player to closeout on the basketball when he has been forced to show help on the opposite side of the court, and then defend the basketball live in the half court.
Instructions

- Coach should pass the ball away from the defender toward the weakside lane line, thereby forcing him to move away from his offensive player.

- The defensive player should pass the ball back to the coach and then closeout on the offensive player.
- The coach will swing the ball to the offensive player while the defensive player is closing out.
- At this point, the situation is live.
Points of Emphasis:
- Sprint to closeout.
- As you approach make sure you have choppy steps and are balanced and under control.
- Force the ball away from the middle of the court.
- Force the offensive player to take a shot from outside of the lane.
- Box out.
