Summary:

Basic man to man with help

Personnel:

5 players

Instructions

  • BALL ON TOP:
  • Ball pressure.
  • 2 and 3 deny 1 pass away (Front foot in between player's feet, back foot is back to prevent backdoor cutting). 4 and 5 see help.
  • BALL IN THE POST:
  • Defender takes the ball. Deny baseline at all cost.
  • 3 denies the wing 1 pass away.
  • 1 is in between Deny and close enough to help in the middle. It is 5's job to call backdoor cuts from the top for 1 to be able to react in time. We are looking for the skip pass from block to top. Easy steal.
  • 2 helps in the lane. Only opposite side defense is allowed to double team in the paint. Skip pass to wing rotation - 1 slides to 2 on wing, 2 leaves double team to pick up 1 on top. 4 has to push 4 back out of position.
  • 5 gives help in the lane. "Basket" position. Hands are wide to prevent baseline backdoor and to better box out in case of shot.
  • BALL ON EITHER WING:
  • Ball pressure.
  • 1 and 4 deny the ball 1 pass away in the same fashion as in step 1.
  • 2 sees both ball on wing and his defensive assignment (2) on opposite wing (Guns). "Help" position.
  • 5 sees both ball on wing and his defensive assignment (5) on opposite block (Guns). "Basket" position.
