Escape 1 on 1 at Wing

Categories: Offensive Moves
Ages: All Ages  Youth  Middle School  High School+

Purpose of the Drill:

To teach a player who has escaped at the wing to make a quick, aggressive move to the basket based on how the defender is recovering, and finish the play with a high percentage shot.

Instructions

  • Offensive player breaks to the 3 point line on the wing and receives a pass.
  • The defender, trying to knock the ball loose, goes by the ball.
  • The wing explodes straight at the basket looking over his shoulder and shoots the highest percentage lay in based on how the defender recovers.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Teach the offensive player to read the defender on the drive to the basket.
  • Offensive player might "bully" the defender by changing the angle slightly.
  • Offensive player should keep the defensive player guessing on the drive to the basket and should finish the play at the rim with a great decision and easy shot.
