High Post 1 on 1 Escape
Ages: All Ages Youth Middle School High School+
Purpose of the Drill:
To teach the offensive player with the ball how to get to the rim with a slight lead over a defender and get up a good shot right at the rim.
Instructions

- Offensive player with the ball has her back foot on the free throw line (pinch post) and the defender has her front foot on the free throw line.
- On the command GO! both take off.
- The offensive player needs to read the defender while dribbling and protecting the ball and finishes the shot at the rim.
- She needs to protect the shot, knowing when to go up and shoot, or she can use a jump stop and pump fake to get her defender to go flying by.
Points of Emphasis:
- The offensive player needs to "bully" the defender by using the body to keep the defender from getting to the basket before the offensive player does.
- The offensive player needs to make a good decision to get the best shot available.
- Teach offensive players to "play smart", which happens when the offensive player knows exactly what the defender is doing, and executes the move that will take advantage of the position of the defender.
