Heat Basic Offense

Categories: Offense (Team)
Ages: Youth

Summary:

The High Desert Heat 9U basic offense is designed for each player to know what position the need to take to start the offense. The play starts in stack, the bigs pick the 2 and 3 who cut to the wing, the strong side big posts, the weakside big flashes, and the point guard picks away. The wing has the option of shooting, driving, passing to the post or the flash, and then passing back out to the other wing who has assumed the point.

Personnel:

Need at least three players who can handle the ball on the point or wing and make good decisions with the ball.

Instructions

  • Players start out in a stack formation at the low block.
  • Point guard picks a side by dribbling to that side
  • Post (4) sets a pick for 2, who makes a cut to the wing to receive the pass from the point.
  • Wing can take a shot if open, drive to the basket, hit the posting #4, or hit the flashing #5.
  • Point guard sets a pick on the opposite wing, who replaces the point at the top and the play can start all over.
  • 3 is now the point, dribbles over to the opposite wing.
  • 1 makes a V cut and goes to get open on the wing.
  • 5 goes back to his spot on the block, outside of the lane
  • 2 goes back down to the block and then pops out to the wing.
  • The play continues until we have an open shot

Additional Comments:

There are a couple of other moves the players can make. The point can pass to the wing and cut to the basket, instead of picking for the opposite wing. The two posts can screen for each other, as well.
