Summary:

This is a counter to the Zipper play. It is a 4-High entry into a surprise ball screen with a high/low.

Personnel:

The set is shown with 3 guards and 2 posts, but can be run with any position grouping that includes at least one post.

Instructions

  • 1 dribbles to the wing opposite the scoring post.
  • 4 takes a step or two towards the corner to screen for 3.
  • 3 walks the defender in, and then can sprint cut to the top of the key either high or low.
  • 2 cuts to the ballside corner.
  • 1 passes to 3 then spaces.
  • 4 is the safety option for 1 if 3 cannot get open. (see "safety option" below)
  • 5 sets a surprise ball screen for 3 then rolls to basket.
  • 3 dribbles hard off the screen looking to attack the basket or bounce out to the wing for post pass.
  • 4 sprint cuts to free throw area.
  • 3 passes to 4 for high/low look.
  • 1 down screens for 2.
  • "Safety Option"
  • If 3 cannot get open on zipper cut to top, then 1 can pass to 4, the safety valve.
  • 1 cuts over the top of 4 for return pass or handoff.
  • 4 sets ball screen for 1 then cuts to basket.
  • 3 & 4 set a double screen away for 2.
  • 1 dribbles off 4's screen looking for the 4 on the basket cut or 2 off the double screen.
