Ages: All Ages  Youth  Middle School  High School+

Purpose of the Drill:

Practice agility, ball-handling, and change of direction.

Instructions

  • Phase I - Two-Ball Dribbling
  • Dribbler begins with zig-zag dribble around the staggered cones. We set the up as shown on the basketball sideline and the volleyball sideline.
  • After the zig-zag, weave through the straight line of cones at halfcourt.
  • Proceed to the chairs and weave arond the chairs - keep shoulders facing the baseline and eyes toward the rim while dribbling.
  • Phase II - One Ball Dribbling
  • Move the zig-zag cones closer to increase the angle of the direction change. Move the line of cones so that they are approximately 3' apart. Have dribbler repeat the pattern with one ball. Emphasize LOW dribbles and sharp changes of direction.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Keep the dribble low.
  • Start with two basketballs together - then alternating.
  • Start slow on first lap(s) then increase speed.
  • KEEP HEAD UP!
