Ages: All Ages  Youth  Middle School  High School+

Purpose of the Drill:

This drill has the offensive player make a layup and then turn and attempt to turn the ballhandler several times before they reach half court.

Instructions

  • Start with one line at mid court on the far right or left hand side.
  • The first player in the line is the initial offensive player, the second is the initial defensive player.
  • When the coach says, "Go!" the offensive player does a speed dribble and goes in for a layup.
  • Then, the player who shot the layup becomes a defender and the other player attempts to bring the ball up on the opposite side of the court from where the play started.
  • The new defender then turns the offensive player as many times as possible before mid court in a zig zag.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Make sure the defender stays low.
  • Emphasize the defender slides feet.
