Purpose of the Drill:

Transition drill where the ball handler works on pushing the ball and attacking the rim. The drill also is a defensive drill where they seek to stop the dribbler or pick up a charge.

Instructions

  • Have two lines, an offensive line and a defensive line.
  • Start with the ball on the behind the baseline and out at the three point line.
  • Have the dribbler push the ball as fast as they can around the chair and then attempt to attack the basket.
  • The defender sprints around a second chair which is placed a few feet beyond the offensive chair.
  • The defender then seeks to sprint back to stop the layup or pick up a charge.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Defensively, attempt to force a jump shot.
  • Offensively, attempt to get a layup.
  • Limit the number of dribbles or time to create a game environment.
  • To emphasize charges, move the defensive chair closer to the basket, giving them time to get in front of the dribbler.
  • To simulate a steal and breakaway, move the chair away from the basket.
  • Play out until a defensive rebound or basket.
  • Emphasize boxing out.
