Instructions

  • Start with two lines on the baseline.
  • Have the player nearest the sideline roll the ball out to the three point line.
  • The same player proceeds to sprint out to gather the ball at the three-point line.
  • The other player standing out of bounds just outside the lane, slide shuffles out of bounds to the three point line and then sprints to the wing.
  • The player picking up the rolling ball, squares up to the basket, pump fakes a shot, and then passes to the wing.
  • After the pass, the player sprints to set a screen for the wing, who comes off the screen and dribbles in for a lay-up.
  • Option #1 - Screen and then cut to the basket
  • The drill stays the same, except when the screener sets a screen, the ball handler comes off the screen and passes to the screener, who is cutting back door.
  • Option #2 - Pick and Pop
  • Same play but the screen then pops to the wing and the ballhandler passes to him for a jump shot.
  • Make sure the screener is staying low.
  • Option #3 - Dribble hand off
  • Instead of passing to the wing and setting a screen, the player receiving the ball at the top will dribble right at the defender.
  • The wing will do a V cut to come to set up his defender for the dribble screen and come over the dribbler, getting the handoff.
  • The player receiving the handoff then can cut to the basket for a layup, or hit the screener going back door or hit the screener popping out to the wing.
  • The final steps is to add live defenders and then work on having the offensive team starts reading the defenders.
  • First add one defenders and then add a second defender. Finally, you can go to a 3 on 3 situation.
  • Offense needs to read to do the various options they just drilled.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Make sure the players catch in triple threat and look at the rim.
  • Emphasize that the players need to set proper picks.
  • Have the players run at game speed so when defense is applied they will be prepared for that pressure.
