Ages: All Ages  Youth  Middle School  High School+

Purpose of the Drill:

This is a process driven shooting drill to improve a players form.

Instructions

  • Each player has a ball, gets in proper shooting form, and shoots the ball to land just in front of them.
  • With the proper backspin, the ball should hit the floor and bounce towards them.
  • Players take 10 shoots each.
  • The second part of the drill is for each player to get in a triple threat position and spin the ball in front of them so it hits the floor and comes back to them waiste high.
  • The player recieves the ball like they would be receiving a pass from a teammate.
  • They then pick a spot out on the wall or backboard and take a shot.
  • They do this 20 times, attempting to hit the same spot on the wall each time.
  • The Spin 30 portion of the drill is where you break the players up to get one or two at each of your baskets.
  • The player starts at the elbow and spins the ball in front of him, towards the middle of the foul line.
  • The shooter receives the spint, comes to a jump stop, pivots on the inside foot to square up to the basket, and then takes a shot.
  • The player gets their own rebound and goes to the opposite elbow and shoots from the left side.

Points of Emphasis:

  • Have players hold their follow through
  • When they are doing the Spin 30 portion of the drill, make sure the players stay low as they recieve the spin, come to a jump stop, pivot, and shoot.
