Purpose of the Drill:
Layup drill that emphasizes ball handling, finishing, and ball protection. This drill is a good warm up drill.
Instructions

- Start with player with a ball at the right elbow.
- Take a drill and finish off with a right hand layup.

- Take the ball out of the next and dribbling quickly back to the right elbow.

- Come across the lane and complete a left handed reverse layup.

- Take the ball out of the net and dribble to the left elbow where the player repeates what he or she did on the right side.
- Set a number of made baskets, such as 10, or see how many the players can make in 30 seconds.
Points of Emphasis:
- Teach the players to bring the free hand to the ball and lower the shoulder so the player protects the ball from the defender.
- Have them approach game speed.
- Emphasize as few dribbles as possible and no wasted dribbles.
- Get back to the free throw line when they dribble back to the elbow.
- Use as few dribbles as possible and get good extension.
- Can go off two feet, instead of the inside foot.
Motivation/Teaching Tips:
- Make it competitive by seeing who can get the most shots or baskets in 30 seconds.
