We tried something different this year. \u00a0We let the players come up with the core values and character values that we want to emphasis this year.<\/p>\n

Here’s how we came up with them…<\/p>\n

First<\/strong> we had a meeting to brainstorm ideas. \u00a0BTW, this was our 10th grade boys team. \u00a0\u00a0Players came up with ideas and I wrote the list down on the whiteboard. \u00a0When we were all done I took a picture of the list with my phone.<\/p>\n

The next day<\/strong>\u00a0I sent the following text message to the players…<\/p>\n

Vote on team core values.\u00a0 Text me only your top 5 votes on what core values you think we should focus on this year. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

1. Hard work \/ effort<\/em><\/div>\n
2. Resilient<\/em><\/div>\n
3. Teamwork \/ together<\/em><\/div>\n
4. Selfless \/ help others<\/em><\/div>\n
5. Leadership<\/em><\/div>\n
6. Communication<\/em><\/div>\n
7. Honesty<\/em><\/div>\n
8. Toughness<\/em><\/div>\n
9. Confidence<\/em><\/div>\n
10. Attitude<\/em><\/div>\n
11. Discipline<\/em><\/div>\n
12. Try harder<\/em><\/div>\n
13. Be proactive<\/em><\/div>\n
14. Be grateful<\/em><\/div>\n

We’ll see how things works. \u00a0I think this is a pretty good list of things to emphasize.\u00a0 And the best part is the players\u00a0came up with the list — so hopefully they take ownership of what we’re emphasizing and it will have a bigger impact.<\/p>\n
