{"id":761,"date":"2015-09-09T09:04:50","date_gmt":"2015-09-09T14:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breakthroughbasketball.com\/haefner\/?p=761"},"modified":"2015-10-13T06:25:25","modified_gmt":"2015-10-13T11:25:25","slug":"high-fives-improve-team-chemistry-energy-and-excitement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.breakthroughbasketball.com\/haefner\/high-fives-improve-team-chemistry-energy-and-excitement","title":{"rendered":"High Fives &#8211; Improve Team Chemistry, Energy, and Excitement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A very simple way for you to improve your team&#8217;s chemistry, team energy, and just have more fun is to encourage more high fives, chest bumps, fist bumps, and so on.<\/p>\n<p>I read somewhere that\u00a0NBA teams whose players had the most physical contact during games early in the season were the most successful down the stretch.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know if the studies are legitimate but it makes sense. \u00a0And seems to be very positive for our youth teams.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Steve Nash\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/keithallison\/2454088365\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2282\/2454088365_e46cfcd8f6_z.jpg\" alt=\"Steve Nash\" width=\"640\" height=\"456\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Steve Nash, arguably the best point guard to play in the NBA was notorious for lots of high fives!<\/p>\n<h2>How to Encourage More High Fives and Fist Bumps<\/h2>\n<p>Here are a few ideas that work for us&#8230;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px;\">When it&#8217;s time for a drink say&#8230;. &#8220;2 chest bumps and get a drink!&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px;\">When it&#8217;s time for a break say&#8230; &#8220;give all the coaches a high five and take a break&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px;\">During practice huddles say&#8230; &#8220;bring it in! \u00a010 high fives and then eyes on me.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px;\">Give out lots of high fives yourself. \u00a0It can be just because a player is close by or when players give solid effort during drills.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px;\">Remind players to celebrate success. \u00a0They can even\u00a0celebrate after a drill simply because they worked hard.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 12px;\">Encourage high fives during games&#8230; when players come out and go in.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Players Love This Stuff<\/h2>\n<p>I&#8217;ll tell you, our players (especially the young ones) absolutely love it when I say&#8230;.\u00a0&#8220;2 chest bumps and get a drink!&#8221; \u00a0Smiles are all over and it just brings positive energy to your practice.<\/p>\n<p>Try it out and see how it works.<\/p>\n<p>Suggestion. \u00a0Add little reminders to your practice plans (ex: drink break and chest bumps). \u00a0Eventually you&#8217;re players will start doing it on their own. \u00a0But you need to lead by example and encourage it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A very simple way for you to improve your team&#8217;s chemistry, team energy, and just have more fun is to encourage more high fives, chest bumps, fist bumps, and so on.
