I&#8217;ll start writing up the drills and sharing them with you soon.<\/p>\n<p>But I keep going back to a really simple drill that is still one of my favorites&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>This past month\u00a0we got back to playing &#8220;No Dribble Games&#8221;. \u00a0 For the most part, we play\u00a0&#8220;half court 5 on 5, no dribble&#8221;. \u00a0We generally play make it, take it. \u00a0Check the ball at the top on change of possession.<\/p>\n<p>This drill\u00a0does so much for your team&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improves spacing<\/li>\n<li>Improves half court offensive execution<\/li>\n<li>Teaches players to get open<\/li>\n<li>Improves cutting<\/li>\n<li>Develops elusiveness<\/li>\n<li>Improves screening fundamentals<\/li>\n<li>Reduces over-dribbling in games<\/li>\n<li>Improve footwork (pivots to handle defensive pressure)<\/li>\n<li>Improves passing<\/li>\n<li>Teaches players to MEET their pass<\/li>\n<li>Reduces turnovers<\/li>\n<li>And can help defense too if you watch your team&#8217;s positioning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Playing half court no-dribble has really helped us make big improvements this season&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Our 10th grade team has turned things around, playing much better offensively. \u00a0 Playing half court no dribble has been a big part of that improvement. \u00a0We&#8217;re on a three game winning streak, after losing all our games to start the season (some of which by 40 and\u00a050 points!!). \u00a0Our improvement has been fantastic.<\/p>\n<p>Our 4th grade girls&#8217; team is on a 7 game winning streak (won two tournaments in a row) but still struggles to &#8220;run offense&#8221;. \u00a0We score lots of points because of excellent ball-handling skills. \u00a0But almost all our points come from spacing and the dribble drive.<\/p>\n<p>We could continue relying on the dribble drive, but I want us to be a well rounded team that learns all the fundamentals of the game. \u00a0So we just started playing more &#8220;no dribble 5on5 half court&#8221; this week and we require players to follow their motion offense rules. \u00a0I see our team making big strides in learning how to cut better, use screens better, and play a half court game. \u00a0The no-dribble really works wonder for us when it comes to motion offense\u00a0execution. \u00a0I plan to keep using the drill the rest of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The no-dribble drill\u00a0is still one of my favorite drills. \u00a0I urge you to give it a try and consider using it on a consistent basis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve tried dozens of\u00a0new drills this year with both our 4th graders and our 10th grade high school team. \u00a0I plan to keep using several of them.
