A few weeks ago\u00a0I missed an opportunity to be there for one of my players.<\/p>\n

She was upset about fouling out early and having a tough game. \u00a0Maybe there was more going on — I don’t know. \u00a0But she was legitimately upset. \u00a0It was more than just a quick tear and all was fine. \u00a0I was too caught up in the details of the game and I did not console her. I didn’t find out if there was anything else bothering her.<\/p>\n

I regret that.<\/p>\n

I reflected the next day and I regret not being there for her — talking to her, consoling her, and showing that I care. \u00a0She bounced back and seemed fine at the next practice but I still should have been there for her.<\/p>\n

This reminded me of a great article that I needed to read again<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I urge all of you coaches to read the article When Players Need You Most<\/a>\u00a0 — because this is the time of year when we all need these reminders. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

We all make mistakes. \u00a0I’m not beating myself up over it. \u00a0But I am trying to learn from my mistake so I do better next time. \u00a0I hope you all do the same.<\/p>\n
