See attached - Thoughts?

Yes, most of the notes were lifted from materials here, since I am not sharing with any other coach, I hope that is ok. The notes are for me anyway - LOL

Hmm - seem to be having trouble uploading the pdf. Is that option just playing with my emotions?

I'm having trouble uploading files too. I'll have a programmer look into this and will keep you posted. In the meantime if you want to email me the file I can upload and link to it in this thread.

The attachments seem to be working now so I uploaded the practice plan for you. See attached.

Hopefully other coaches will chime in now. I'll also post my thoughts in the next post.

Looking at the practice plan, it looks like a well thought out plan.

From glancing at the plan it looks like fast break and half court man defense will be your emphasis initially and maybe the whole season. If that matches your coaching philosophy, then I think you're on the right track.

I'm sure that during practice you will be tempted to go over the specified time for each drill. That will probably happen on every single drill. If you go with your gut during practice, I am going to take a guess and say you will get through about 50-60% of what you have on the plan. If you use a timer and diligently move to the next drill regardless of whether they "get it", then you will obviously stay on track.

That is a conscious decision you'll have to make. Use a timer or just go with the flow.

I did notice there is not any shooting on the plan. And I didn't notice any dedicated ball handling or offensive footwork (although several of those drills can combo as shooting and ball handling).

Anyway, those were a few things I noticed.

BTW, there is only so much time to work with so it might be ok to leave off shooting, footwork, and ballhanlding for now. Just an observation. You have to pick and choose what you want to focus on.

First, thanks for taking the time to look.

With only 10 to 11 practices before the first game, I don't feel like I have time to go over the skills at this point.

Also, I plan on using the drills to cover some of the basics as well.

These kids are nothing but gym rats, they play almost every night at open gym. I do plan on working on skills but probably not until our three week break in Jan/Feb.

I will post my other plans as well. I ordered Haske's up tempo dvd so that may change the plan once I watch it.

Totally stoked about Kelbick's transition dvd. I have watched it four times this week.
