What am I missing? 95% of the time i try to blow past my defender i get cut off. I do admit i somewhat have a lack of a counter move for every situation but idk how to develop that. what tips would you give me experts?

Hey, so you probably have a slow first step & need to make it more explosive. Jeff listed a video to a great video above. Also, developing counter moves is crucial as well. But once you start developing a explosive first step you'll be able to get by defenders.

Another thing I recommend is attacking the top foot so your defender has to flip his hips to catch up with you. That's one of the easiest ways to get by defenders

I haven't seen you play but I think your mentality might enter into it. What is your objective when you put the ball on the floor? Are you committed to going to going by your defender or are you putting it down and waiting to see what happens? Do you act with immediacy or do you wait until you see what th defender is doing?

The time to size up your defender is before you get the ball. Act immediately with purpose and conviction. Try to get really long and attack with your first dribble. If you can't beat him with 2 dribbles, you can't beat him. Are yo wasting a dribble to figure him out or are you trying to beat him?

Your mentality is the first step in beating people.
