In the one motion shooting system, does it matter which foot is down first when getting to the "tuck" position?

The video looks to be the non-shooting foot, but I wanted to check and see if it was coaches preference or is there a specific foot that works better?

Brian, I can only speak for the way that I teach it.

For me it does not matter, I teach players how to do it with both feet. You can also do it if you believe in teaching the hop.

While the timing will certainly never be perfect like shown in the video, I believe if you get the player in the habit of bringing the ball up before extending their legs to jump, you will get the that rhythm and fluidity that you see with great shooters.

Brian,

It doesn't matter which foot is down first. The Tuck takes place each time the shooter steps into the shot. The Tuck is merely a transition mechanism that allows for a seamless shooting motion throughout the entire process.

A left pivot means the right leg is the trail leg and just the opposite when using a right pivot. It's up to the individual, but I like using the inside foot (nearest the basket) as the pivot when receiving a pass or shooting off the dribble. It seems to work much easier that way. This can be seen in Chapters 8 & 9 of the One Motion Shooting Video.

If using a Jump Stop, the Tuck is bypassed because there is no step or trail leg. The shooter arrives at SET when both feet hit the floor and that's when the shooting process begins. This is found in Chapter 10 of the One Motion Shooting Video.
