Does anyone have any suggestions for how to speed up the 4-cut? We are implementing Coach Haske's secondary break this year. The challenge we are having is with how long it takes for the 4-man to cut to the block, screen away, and then flash to the ballside elbow. Our 2-man is holding the ball for a long time and gets impatient waiting for the 4 and 5-man action to take place. That said, one idea we had to possibly speed things up was to have the 1-man do the block2block screen and flash to the elbow after passing to the 2-man on the wing. Thank you very much for your thoughts! Jeremy Horvat Boys' Basketball Coach Berkeley Springs High School, WV |

Coach- if you do not get that the first four cut I would swing the ball to the other wing and have your bigs work on that timing for their screen. So, they may screen twice by the time the ball hits the other wing. We are very big on going through this progression every time a player touches the ball- look shot, then post, then ball reversal either by pass or start the dribble to the top and then pass. If a player is dribbled at they should back cut or ball Hand off. Coach Haske |

Coach We are a "pitch it ahead" team that is having some good success with....... When the pg "pitches ahead" to the 2 guard from half court or the back court, we are allowing our 5 to flash to the ball side block and the 4 is filling the weakside block. I would agree with Coach Haske that our best post looks come after the quick ball reversal. Good luck to you! Heath |

We keep him at the elbow if he thinks he can't get to the block. This then allows the 5 to do a variety of things. He can cut across the key to the ball side block and post up. He can up screen for the 4 who cuts off it or he can stay opposite and wait for the ball to be reversed. This lets the 2 drive the ball too. |

I really like to keep 5 on back side to rebound the shot fom one or two. Also, we really try to keep the seam open for one to go to the basket. We run. 5 to the front of the rim and then he goes backside. Coach haske |
