I am about to be a sophomore in college , I redshirted my freshman season. I was supposed to play on our Jv team this past year. Our JV team is at a Division 2 School and it's a bunch of kids that are non scholarship players but have the ability to play in college but just lost opportunities recruiting wise or wanted to get the chance of getting a locked in roster spot at a D2 school. A little background on me: I came to the school as a package deal with one of the scholarship recruits that was a top priority for the program, the coach likes me and the players on the main team like me. I played AAU on the Nike Eybl circuit, I had a bunch of D3 and D2 interest and preferred walk on spots at 2 Mid Major Division 1 schools but was not able to get a high enough SAT score for them to take me as a walk on. Earlier in the year, right after I was declared ineligible the Assistant coach called me into his office and basically told me, If I get stronger, get my jump shot a little more consistent, I can eventually be a good player or possibly even a scholarship player for their main team by my junior or senior year. It was great news so. So I attended every practice, sat behind the bench for every game, Then the coach said he wants to start on JV to see what I can do since i only practiced a few times before getting declared inelgible . The thing is that, he said hes going to be picking from the 6 returning players from the JV team so the pool would be out of me and 5 other kids. But then this summer some kids that were returning that are pretty good took their name out of the transfer portal , My question to the coaches would you take those kids back even though they entered the portal and should i expect my coach to put those 3 kids in the pool that he will be picking to move up? And with these circumstances , Do you guys think my chances of getting the call to be moved up is high or low ?

Did you get stronger and work on that jump shot?

I wouldn't overthink this too much. Control what you can control and try not to let your head run on the stuff you can't control. You can't control who 's in the pool or how they play. All you can control is how you play and your actions. Focus on that.

I think you know yourself best. Some players can plan extremely well on their own. Some have more trouble with that. Trainers are very helpful... but they also cost money. If all else, there's plenty of info for you to plan yourself. We offer both free and paid for resources to guide you through improving. Here are some good ones...
