Hi Coach,

I would like to ask you some questions regarding my game. So as of now, I play off of my speed when I drive, and I'm usually very good in the open court on the fast break, but when we're playing in a half court set, my ability to drive usually disappears especially when the defender plays off me because he knows my jumper isn't the best. I know I have a lot of areas for improvement, but in terms of really succeeding and trying to play on the varsity team next year, what would you recommending really focusing on this summer? I'm trying my best to improve all aspects of my game, so what drills do you recommend for fast results in terms of handling the ball, and crossing your man over/beating him off the dribble?

Hi George -

So tell me, what kind of range do you have with your jump shot? 3 Point? 3 point + ? IF you could incease your range a little bit that might help you be able to take him off the drillbe.

I would work on your ball handling skills for one and a change of pace along with your crossover. IF you are playing at the same pace you will be easy to cover. Look for a weakness and try to exploit it. Fake, crossover/ get your shouler past his and he is beat. By the way, there are NO fast resutls ... it takes a lot of hard work, time and repititions.

Thoughs?

Here are a couple of things that you can look at George -

How about 10 repititions of this one until you are comfortable then do 20

Notice these players are doing this in the half court.

Hi Coach Sar,

Great thanks for the drills and the links provided. My range on my jumper is I have a pretty good stroke from 3, but my mid range game is terrible. I can shoot brick after brick when I'm shooting mid range jumpers.

And also, in terms of switching the speeds i play at, does it mean to at first start slow, the explode with my first step?

Ok George - how about starting at 10 footes then work your way back to tte FT line .... start slowly and then add game speed Then go to 17 feet ... BE patient, you have all summer.

Or, you can start fast, slow down and explode again. Think about this.... IF you are playing full speed all the time it will be easy to cover you, you have to change you speed.... we used to call that change of speed, change of direction. Don't let the defender go to school on you.
