My cousin, who use to play 4 years as a PG in high school. he has really good defense.
When i asked him, how do you play quick defense? He said use wall sits. It helps increase your strength,
and speed. I asked how long? He said do about 15 minutes 3 or 4 times a week. It sounds a lot of work but just
wondering if he was right? Sounds long and tiring work.....

There is no shortcut to being good at something. Playing good D is all about heart and pride! Quick feet and knowing your opponent or having a philosophy about where you want to take him. Have a good balanced base and DON'T REACH ..... your feet have a tendency to stop when you reach..... look for crossovers or the guy putting the ball right in front of you... flick up to deflect the dribble.

Go to school on your opponents..... know what they like to do and what their weaknesses are... exploit the weaknesses and try not to allow them to use their strengths. You wont win every battle but you sure can even the playing field that way.

Here are some good links to help you improve your defense:

Wall sits will help somewhat but I think you need to do more than that to develop strength and quickness. To get quicker you need a mix of strength, plyo, and flexibility excercises. There have been many DVDs and books written about the subject.

But Coach Sar is right. 80% of defense is heart and desire. Here's a good article to help you get more playing time:
