I play as a forward / center, but i want to start playing as a shooting guard. Can you help me with a week routine that focus on shooting guard's "must have" qualities? I consider to have a reasonably good shot, I must train the "quick release". My ball handling is not so good, it would be nice if you could give me a drill that I could do every day in order to improve my ball handling. Also workouts, so improve my vertical jump, my quickness, explosiveness, and how do I combine it with my skills training.

My main problem is how frequently should I work on these themes in order to become a great player.

Thanks again,

I'm from Portugal and I'm sixteen. I'm 6'3 and in my team I usually play as a fforward/center, because I'm the tallest, but I would like to play as a shooting guard, because with 6'3 there's no chance to go on the national team as a forward, which is a dream to me. But for that I have to work hard these holidays, and I need your help, if that's not a problem for you.

I pretend to work at morning and afternoon, and take 1 day of rest per week, but my problem is actually getting a schedule to know what do work every day, what is most important in an excelent shooting guard. How do I combine my "body workouts" with my "skills workouts", what should I do to improve my vertical leap, my quickness, ball handling, game situation shots, etc etc, and how frequently should I train these topics every week, in order to become a great great player and achieve the national team.

If you could help me with an workout schedule for about a week so that I can do it and repeat and repeat till perfection, I would be very very grateful with you !

If you want to get good at it, then you need to work on it everyday. Play the position as often as possible. Work on the skills until you can perform them as a natural reaction.

Don't think in terms of shooting guard. Think in terms of complete basketball player. Think of the skill set as a perimeter skill set. Some of the most effective shooting guards operated in the post areas, so any back to the basket game you have can translate to your advantage.

If you only put half time into developing as a perimeter player, then you will never develop the natural ease with your skill. Any skill that you want to develop, you need to raise the muscle memory of that action so that it can be performed without thinking. Otherwise, what you do will be too robotic to be effective.

Just my opinion.
