My daughter is 10 and we just got a portable basketball hoop that is adjustable from 8 to 10 feet. The league in which she plays uses a 10 foot rim. She can shot from about 5-10 feet with decent accuracy but her form is not the best. She still throws the ball more than shoots. I have ordered the material from Tom Nordland and Dave Hopla and it is very helpful.

Is it better for me to work with a smaller ball (the league uses the regular size women’s ball) on an 8 foot rim until she gets her form down and then gradually raise the basket from 8 to 9 and then to 10 even if she plays on a 10 foot rim?

Thanks.

I'll jump here. I think shooting form and success at making shots are more important than making sure she's shooting on a 10 ft. rim when practicing. Bumping up the rim to 10ft once in a while to emulate what she'll see in a game makes sense too, but I'd have her shoot closer to the basket. If you help your daughter focus on good form, you'll be okay.

Remember to throw in some of those fun H-O-R-S-E games (swish only, bank shot only, etc..) when the rim is lower.
