My daughter is 14 and will be in 9th grade in the fall of 2013. She is on the short side (5ft 1in), but a excellent dribbler and shooter. Despite these skills, she is interested in improving her speed and quickness on the court. What can she do to improve this part of her game? Rich W.

See if you can find a speed and agility clinic in your area. A good one will work on core strenght and quick bursts, change of direction, etc. While most of the drills you can do "at home" it helps to have a coach and ohters to act as motivators. My kid has done it and after an hour he is total spent. It has helped a lot. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip golfman25. Would I be correct to assume that this type of clinic work would also help with injury prevention? I have read quite a bit in the media about young girls who play basketball, soccer and other sports having many ACL knee injuries.

Yes it should. Here is what the place my kid goes to says:

Is this mainly for male athletes or do females train too?
Our program is for both males and females. Our female athletes see
great results with training. On top of that, many drills we perform help to prevent
ACL injuries which is a growing concern with the female athlete. Successfully
learning how to have proper body mechanics and strength will go a long ways in
preventing injuries.

What is described is exactly the type of place I am looking for. Thanks for the info!
