Hi
Great website
Wondering if you have suggestions on how and what words to use to provide feedback to a youth player age 13 that seems to go into their own world when they touch the ball.
Most of the team will pass and share thd ball but 80% of the time when the ball get to this one player he will
Dribble around
Try and drive but not pass
Dribble under the hoop then may dribble to the top of the key then look for his own shot.
Basically most of the team just stop ans watch and as a coach all i want to do is yell pass the ball.
The kid is nice is pleasant and good behavior but he probably been watching too much james harden.
So any suggestions on how to frame feedback.

It helps if you have a general philosophy about dribbling and passing in your offensive scheme. You can point back to that. Not sure how your team looks in the passing department, but you could make a rule that you have to pass X times before someone takes a shot. Don't have to do it forever, just for a few games, then use it again when needed.

You could also have someone track the passes for a few games or scrimmages and go more with a team approach than singling this kid out. If you begin to put emphasis on passing more as a team and measure that, it could help you talk to this kid one on one. Make a big deal out of it when he makes a good pass, celebrate assists on the team for a few games/scrimmages.
