Can you give me some thoughts on trying to make the players on my 3rd grade boys team more athletic? I have coached junior high boys and girls for several years but never had a group this young so I'm kind of feeling my way through. We always do some kind of footwork drill to start practice-dot drills, speed ladder, line jumps, jumping rope, etc. but I'm not seeing any improvement. We just fall down ALOT! Please help!

I think balance on one foot is good. You can have players toss the ball, go around waister or different movements to work on balance.

I also think playing other sports like soccer, flag football, gymnastics, martial arts, etc is good for them to develop as athletes. Play multiple sports seasonally.

Playing tag is great. There are lots of variations of tag games you can play with or without a ball.

Focusing on man to man defense is also very beneficial. Playing lots of full court 1v1 in practice.
