I coach my son's 1st and 2nd grade team. Each week, we get about 20 minutes to teach skills and then, the kids scrimmage for about 30-40 minutes.

I teach fundamentals along with some simple plays (v-cut, give and go) but, it is hard to get the kids to execute those simple plays in the 4 on 4 scrimmages.

How can I get them to perform some of those plays? Also, how can I teach them how to use that v-cut to get open?

I would run motion offense based on spacing, ball movement, and player movement. Keep it real simple. I have never had luck running set plays that kids have to memorize. Not only do they forget when its game time but it's a waste of time working on memorizing what to do when instead you could spend that time on skill development.

To teach v cuts you can start with basic coach at top of key and players on wing. Have them v cut. We teach them to use footwork like this (see option #1):

Then we play 3v3 half court to teach v cuts and getting open. Vcut to get open, then pass and cut or pass and screen away. Those are your options.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for so let us know if you have more questions.

Thanks -- can you send me a link to a motion offense example like you mentioned?

This is a little bit overkill for 1st/2nd grade but this is basically what we run for a motion:
