Hello. I am an unhappy coach. I coach 4th grade girls in a school league and our league has us using girls 28.5 size balls and regulation hoop. It bothers me so much but it is what it is the school won’t leave the league.

What can I do to promote proper shooting and lay ups. I want my kids to learn layup and proper shooting form but using such a sized ball with regulation rim height makes this nearly impossible.

What can I do to improvise? Thanks for your time!

That's what most leagues do. Players really don't shoot that much in games... you get a lot more reps in practice so it's not the end of the world. Lower the baskets and use smaller basketballs in your practices as needed. That's what we did.
