Just starting up with a new league this season and I'm looking at implementing one of two offenses. Either a 5 Out Offense with basket cuts through the paint after the pass and filling in the empty spots. Or looking to push the 4 Out 1 In Offense with constant ball movement until we can work the ball in to the post and crash the boards. Any thoughts or experience with either offense?

if you go 4 out 1 in with youth team, make sure you rotate the post players you use so you don't pigeonhole kids into positions too early. I have seen lots of big kids get development stunted because they were stuck in the post when young.... they need to learn to play on perimeter too.

Bottom line is both offenses work from scoring and winning standpoint, if you do a good job teaching it. I prefer 5 out because I think it's more flexible and better for development. We teach cutting, screening, ball screens, and posting from that offense. You can always use temporary posts with 5 out. Or if you start with 5 out, it's easy to change up to 4 out for a while. Rules and concepts can be basically the same so it's easy to change up.
