Can anyone recommend some videos on shooting off the dribble. When I compare my 6th graders with others, it seems that my son tends to pick up the ball, then 'drag' his right foot forward (he is right handed).
I have seen videos like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEKcxYdx_0Y which tells you to jump both foot beind the ball and point to the goal. I showed to him. but my son still doesn't believe it.

can anyone show me additional videos?
Also is Hal's method (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEKcxYdx_0Y ) correct?

I just want him to have correct footwork?

If you watch 50 videos or listen to 50 shooting coaches, you'll find 50 different way to shoot and 50 different opinions. And you'll probably find 50 effective techniques if you really believe in it.

For me, that video is too technical. That is my opinion. I'm sure it works for Hal. Now if a player is really having trouble with shooting off the dribble, I might try some technical adjustments and drills to help him/her develop better rhythm speed of release, etc.

If you look at all the great shooters out there, they have different techniques and you'll find contradictions to every single thing that shooting coaches teach.

I do think using the inside foot as decelerator is important for shooting off the dribble. This can be a 1-2 step with inside foot. Or quick stop where inside foot plants a split second before outside foot (usually can only detect on slow motion video).

This just helps with balance, quickness, etc. But I know there are good shooters that don't follow this advice.

Maybe post a video and if we see any glaring issues we can let you know

Thanks Jeff. I will take video later. After more research on youtube, I think he is done 1-2 step off the dribble. but many videos say that jump stop/hop are faster and more balanced.
I won't force a chance and will monitor his progress.
